Living a gluten-free lifestyle doesn’t end with the avoidance of wheat free foods. Think about it – we digest small amounts of dental products like mouthwash and toothpaste and if we have gluten-free kids they may inadvertently swallow shampoos, soaps and other cosmetics.
As gluten-free consumers we need to carefully determine the contents of the products we use. (To find out if a product contains gluten you can contact the manufacturer, check out the manufacturer website or call up the company – most major manufacturers have customer service reps who are versed in their products ingredients lists and are happy to speak to you about potential gluten free contaminants).
Now if like me, you don’t leave the house until you put on some lipstick then consider this – many name brand lipsticks, glosses and lip liners do contain traces of wheat bran, wheat germ oil and barley. Don’t sweat it though girls – you can still look glamorous without fear of …Wheat Germ! Gluten-free lipsticks exist in a huge hue of colors, you just need to do a little legwork. Maybelline, Clinique and Avon all boast several gluten-free lipsticks and Afterglow Cosmetics promises that their products are all 100% gluten free. Good article! I also love Honeybee Gardens for strong color and Alima for light color or gloss. They are both very inexpensive.
