A Gluten-Free Super-Site (check out the GF poll at the end of this post!)

A Gluten-Free Super-Site (check out the GF poll at the end of this post!)

I originally came up with the idea a few weeks ago when I had spent over an hour on the computer trying to find the answer to a simple gluten-free cooking question.  Wouldn’t it be great to have a gluten-free super-site that would provide all the health, cooking, recipe, and other assorted gluten-free living questions in one place?  Oh,  and maybe that website could sell some gluten-free noodles for less than $5!  So the other day I invited Julie over for some coffee and gluten-free chocolate cake and we sat down to discuss my idea.  She loved the concept and suggested I add our gluten-free blog and links to other blogs to the website.  That would be the epitome of one stop gluten-free shopping.

Fifteen years ago, my husband and I founded a little company to provide a similar service for people with diabetes.  When we sold it, after ten years of tender loving care, we were providing more products and services to help make life easier for people with diabetes than any other company in America.  I would like to now apply our experience to do the same within the gluten-free community.

So I have officially decided to start a gluten-free super site.  I want to provide gluten-free consumers with access to affordable products, news, cooking tips, and blogs.  I want to give readers the opportunity to vent their frustrations at yet another failed dessert.   I want to give celiac sufferers access to medical and nutritional experts so that they can figure out how to overcome the nutritional deficiencies that plague their limited diets.  I want to let readers in on the secret techniques that gluten-free chefs use to make their desserts look the way they do.  I want to let readers speak to the authors of their favorite cookbooks so that they can ask about allergy substitutions and what to do when the xxxxoooo!!! dough won’t stop sticking to the xxxxooooo!!!! mixing bowl.  And I want to do it all in one site.

But this website is about more than just convenience.  It’s about inspiration, perspiration and congregation (sorry…”community” didn’t rhyme! :) )  As someone with a wheat sensitive child, I understand what it feels like to have to start over from the beginning.  I remember the day I learned that wheat-free baking was to be my new destiny.  To be honest, I remember the minute I found out.   And I vividly recollect my first few disastrous attempts at making edible wheat-free food for my family.  After a few months of reflection I came to the conclusion that starting from scratch is about more than frustration; it’s about perseverance and inner strength.  And when I look at my teenage daughter who can’t go out for pizza with her friends, or even eat a hamburger on a bun in a restaurant,  I understand what true inner strength means.  This website is about reaching out to the celiac and gluten sensitive community because  I believe that we don’t have to do this alone–and that no one should do it alone.  With accurate educational and medical information, access to affordable gluten-free food, and help from cooking experts we can make this journey together.

I would love your input for this new website and would really appreciate your feedback and suggestions as to how to make this the best gluten-free site, providing what YOU want and need.  Please share your wish list with me asap.  Also, I have decided to present you with some quick polls over the coming weeks so that I can gauge your feelings about certain issues.  If you could take a brief moment of your day to respond to each of these polls I would really appreciate it.  Here’s the first one:

    Hi there:

I wanted to comment on your idea. I too have been thinking for a long time that there needs to be one place to gather ALL of your GF information, recipes and tips/tricks. I have been GF for since 2003 and try to help as many newly diagnosed Celiacs that I can. I cook/bake everything GF and my family loves it. I hate to hear about those that find this difficult to manage. I too work in the diabetes field as does my husband. We both have to eat GF. We have alot in common. Anyway, if I can be of assistance, please let me know.

I’m glad you like my idea and thrilled that we think alike! Let’s talk privately. It would be great if you would get involved. If there is anybody else out there who wants to be part of this, leave me a post telling me what you would absolutely love to do and we’ll see how we can tie you in! The more the merrier. This is not about me, it’s about US!
