    School orientation is always a bit awkward, even more so when you know that at some point you will have to have THE conversation.

    There never is a right time to discuss your child’s food sensitivity. One the one hand you want to give the teacher the chance to get to know your child without any preconceived notions. You don’t want to label your child upfront as the boy with the food allergy, or the girl with celiac disease. On the other hand you need to know that your child will be safe from day one of school.

It’s surprising that something she ate in childhood could create such an intense memory, but certain foods still invoke that particular allergic reaction.     When you introduce yourself to people, how do you identify yourself?

    In trying to come up with the proper method of introducing ourselves in this blog we have gone through various alternatives. Julie is a writer, a teacher, a wife, and a mom. Jen is a lawyer, a cook, a wife, and a mom. But we are not just any moms. We are gluten-free moms. And to be brutally honest, over the past year that is how we have begun to identify ourselves.
