A number of people have contacted us about how they can participate and assist in putting together a really unique, helpful, gluten-free site that will be a resource for the entire gluten-free community. So I have been giving this some thought, as my husband begins researching products and services we can offer.
What’s our goal? To provide the best tools to beat the gluten-free challenge. Gluten-free foods, recipes, lifestyle advice, access to information and educational materials about celiac disease and autism, community activism and support, will all be combined in one place to empower you to overcome your personal difficulties and grow as a person.
But, even more than that, I want to encourage everyone to consider becoming a motivating force in the gluten-free world by joining us and getting involved in the community. Perhaps start a blog to share your pet peeves, use our networking capabilities to help others or tackle a cause that you believe in that can make a difference in your GF neighborhood.
Here are some initial ideas of how you can utilize the site to benefit yourselves and thousands of others. In some cases, the site will provide a platform for your soapbox. In others, it will be a vehicle to network and coordinate your activities with others. But in all, it’s about embracing change and empowering the community:
Great ideas! The biggest help to me would be affordable food products. I’m tired of skipping meals to make my gfree supply go farther!
Skipping meals?? That’s awful! Please promise me, never again! We
are going to do our best to bring you the best products at the best prices on our new GF supersite
so no GFer ever has to even consider skipping meals!!! –Jen
I am Celiac and so is my soon to be 12 year old daughter. i have been living with this for about 6 years while my daughter has only been diagnosed for about 4 years. School has been more challenging than anything in our life. Struggles along the way but feel like we are well on our way to educating the educators in our neighborhood. I would love to tell our story if that can help with others.
You guys are very lucky to have found each other. I have to say, I’m jealous. I’d give anything in the world for my kids to have gluten free playmates and for us as a family to be able to socialize with other celiacs. I was diagnosed 12 years ago and have been raising my kids gluten free since birth; the oldest is 5. The kids’ school experience is the greatest challenge I’ve faced thus far. I’ve scoured my city for playgroups and meetups and cannot find anything, but my search will continue.
It sounds like you have a lot to share that could give inspiration to others facing similar challenges. I hope you will write a blog on our site and tell your story. I’ll be in touch privately to give you some suggestions to help get you started.
